The final tally of contestants in this edition of Mister World is 60.  It may be a sharp decline from 72 in the previous edition and the record of 74 back in 2010, but this is a sum all other major international male pageants would envy, as none of them has ever reached this level.  So how do these 60 gentlemen stack up?  Here's ow my leaderboard looks like:

MISTER WORLD 2024: AT THE HOMESTRETCH -- YELLOW TEAM (AFRICA)

After five long years, the grandest male pageant around, Mister World is being staged again.  This time it's held in Vietnam.  Despite some postponements, like from September to October, once they finally fixed on a date in November, the full itinerary was then revealed and it is filled with a host of varied activities that makes for a well-rounded experience.

Like in previous editions, this year's contestants are split into four teams--but unlike the strict alphabetical split in 2019, this time it's split by continental regions.  Typically the continental regions are presented as follows:  Europe, Americas, Africa, and Asia & Oceania.  But I'll put the African team first because they are actually the smallest roster with also the most no-shows from the so-called last confirmation.  One African made iseems to have an initial confirmation but then backed out:

GHANA - Richard Ouro-Tagba Kofi.

Six, in fact, were no-shows:

CAMEROON - Hendrix Allan Moth.

EQUATORIAL GUINEA - Abraham Mauvé.

GUINEA-BISSAU - Gabriel Monteiro.

LIBERIA - Bruce Erwin Schuler.

NIGERIA - Michael Mazi-Michael.

UGANDA - Shaun Micheal Alinda.

There wre nine mebers of this team that actually showed up, making the smallest team in this bunch.  Let's take a look at them starting with:

ANGOLA - Felipe Salvador Maria.

BOTSWANA - Vincent Gobuamang.  He is notable for winning the marathon leg of the Sports challenge, amassing enough points to be 5th place overall.

ETHIOPIA - Natnael Yazbec.

GUINEA - Djibril Cissé.

KENYA - Teddy Rossiter.

MAURITIUS - Govind Nagi.

SIERRA LEONE - Alhaji Hassan Mansaray.

SOUTH AFRICA - Samuel Chauke.

SOUTH SUDAN - Amac Mathiang Ater Apugi.

MISS UNIVERSE 2024: "FEARFUL" FORECAST

With the 50% capital infusion by Mexican business Raul Rocha into the Miss Universe Organization, it has led to bigger ambitions such as reasserting its position as the biggest international pageant around, a title it has been yielding to Miss World from 1987 onwards.  They aimed to beat the record drawn by its rival of 127 back in 2013, and by doing so they opened up franchises to new countires and those that had been dormant for quite some time.  With that program, they were able to confirm 129 delegates.

However, one delegate opted to no-show, and she is:

AZERBAIJAN

Three delegates were present in Mexico, but dropped out before the crucial Preliminary Competition:

PANAMA - Italy Mora.

SOUTH AFRICA - Mia LeRoux.

KOSOVO - Eldona

So, the ifnal roster of 125 still did not beat Miss World's record, but it sstill is a number not to be sneezed at.  After evaluating their performance in the Preliminary Competition, here is how I think they all stand on my leaderboard:

MISS INTERNATIONAL 2024: "FEARFUL" FORECAST

Though the 62nd edition of the Miss International Beauty Pageant remains steeped in traditional Japanese values and cultural immersion, the gradual modernizing touches brought on by Stephen Diaz continues on, as this time the live final will feature a live competition for the Top 20 walking in swimsuits before whittling them down to a Final Eight + One (because the overall popular vote champion is reportedly going to be added to that cut) and like last year, there will be a live Q&A instead of the pre-rehearsed "cultural" speeches of years past.  On top of all these, there is a team taht actually uploaded the footage of the entire Preliminary Evaluation (interview and swimsuit), so we almost have a very good picture to assess the 71 delegates at this point.  I'm tempted to structure this review as such, but I decided to contunue with my format from last year, where after I post this "Fearful" Forecast, I will post a full-fledged Delegates and Pageant review.  All 71 delegates are still competing in the finals in national costume and evening gown, so in a way, the full Preliminary Evaluation has not yet been completed.

With the impressions we have of them thus far, here's how my leaderboard for this batch looks like:

TOP CONTENDERS:  CABO VERDE, CZECH REPUBLIC, INDONESIA, PERU, THAILAND,

SHOO-INS:  COLOMBIA, FINLAND, KOREA, NIGERIA, PHILIPPINES, VENEZUELA, VIETNAM

MISTER INTERNATIONAL [DISTINCTIVELY HANDSOME]: AT THE HOMESTRETCH -- PART 1

There were some promises made from the previous edition of this version of Mister International that I was hoping would yield to growth and credibility.  First, there was this African personality who promised the delivery of multiple franchises from his area for the next edition.  Then there was the fanfare when they announced new franchise holders, especially from perceived powerhouse Latin American countries like Colombia and Venezuela.

So it's a big let down that this year's roster is merely 25.  This levelis more of a second-tier level pageant like Man of the World*1, Mister Grand International,, Caballero Universal, and many others.  What happened to the promised multitude of franchises for the African region, as this year only one African is present?  This doesn't bode well for this organization's aim to claim legitimacy for tis title, as the rival pageant coming up next month is set to attract a record number of contestants, and a major Mister World 2019 alumni is on-hand to likely secure the title and generate more prestige and legitimacy for that organization.

*1  Man of the World had attracted 30 contestants in 2017 but since then it never reached the 25 level.

But do they make up with quality what they lack in quantity?  Let's assess...

BRAZIL - Nathanael Santos.

CAMBODIA - Ry Sovannak.

CHINA - Zeny Xianyang.

COLOMBIA - Nelson Ruiz.

ECUADOR - Mario Fernando Perez Rivera.

GALAPAGOS ISLAND - Flavio Romero.

HONG KONG - Liu Guiliu.

INDIA - Adong Jamatia.

INDONESIA - Elias Silitonga.

ITALY - Gabriele Cala.

JAPAN - Akira Hatekayama.

MALAYSIA - Datu Mustapha.

MEXICO - Gustavo Olmos.

MISS EARTH 2024: AT THE HOMESTRETCH (PROLOGUE)

The month of November is emerging to be a very hectic season for pageants, as five major international pageants are being conducted simultaneously.  For a one-man operation like myself with limited time to be able to compile my reviews, this poses an extreme challenge.

Anyway, I've observed one dubious milestone that Miss Earth achieved this year--this is the first time in 20 years that they have attracted less than 80 delegates.  The final roster of 76 is the first time they went below the 80s threshhold since 2004.

COMING UP:  EUROPE
