MISTER GLOBAL 2024: "FEARFUL" FORECAST

Mister Global is hosting an auspicious occasion in 2024 as this marks the 10th edition of this pageant.  With that milestone came major changes behind the scenes as Pradit Pradinunt apparently yielded ownership of this pageant to TPN Global, the group that also currently holds the franchise to Miss Universe Thailand and are renowned for flashy spectacles.  Would this herald some major changes to the pageant itself?

Thus far, we know they were hyping up the sponsorship of Lebanese jewellers Mouawad, who are offering watch prizes for the Final Five and supposedly decided to also sponsor a Voice for Change advocacy like in Miss Universe 2023.  But otherwise, based on the activities on-hand  it's a very packed itinerary filled with photo shoots and cultural immersion trips.  But curiously, there was only one major showcase event thus far--a beachwear competition.  I was wondering when they would be scheduling a preliminary competition.  I should've gotten a hint how they chose to schedule the National Costume competition to be held at the same time as the final competition--it turns out what we typically perceive as the preliminary competition would be staged in the finals--that is, all contestants will parade in swimwear and formal wear, and there will be addition segments whittling down the roster to a Top 20 ten a Top 10 + 1 to then a Final Five and a Final Three.

One might thiuk that a milestone like a 10th anniversary would mean a surge in contestant turnout.  So imagine to my shock that there was an attritition, as initially there were 33 confirmed entries.  But then, one emerged as a no-show, and he is...

ZIMBABWE - Chris Ncube.  Wonder why he failed to show up?  Visa issues?  Anyway, if he showed up he is likely to be overshadowed by the other two black Africans in this batch, as those two prove to be competitive with some charisma and this guy doesn't seem to quite have it a their level.

There was one who showed up, did some shoots and activities, then dropped off wen the Beachwear competition was under way, and he's...

NEPAL - Yogesh Shrestha.  Wonder what made him drop out?  Was he intimidated by the cometition?  Did he fall ill or injured somewhere amidst the hullaballoo of activities?  I mean he's reasonably attractive and not a cellar-dweller, though I don't really quite see him as a Top 20 contender.

I normally would of course do a "Homestretch" review, but with the competition format as is, I feel it might be best that I do a "Fearful" Forecast first based on all the pre-final activity impressions and then do a full contestants' review after the pageant.  Here is my leaderboard for the remaining 31 contestnats:

TOP CONTENDERS:  BRAZIL, MEXICO

SHOO-INS:  ECUADOR, ENGLAND, KOREA, NIGERIA, PANAMA, PHILIPPINES, SPAIN,

LIKELIEST:  CAMBODIA, CHINA, CUBA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, FRANCE, PUERTO RICO, SIERRA LEONE, SINGAPORE, THAILAND, VENEZUELA, VIETNAM

POPULAR VOTE FACTOR:  TAIWAN

EXCELLENT:  CROATIA, INDIA, LAOS, MALAYSIA, SOUTH AFRICA, SRI LANKA,  TÜRKIYE

VERY STRONG:  INDONESIA, PAKISTAN

STRONG:  HONG KONG

Here is my "Fearful" Forecast:

FINAL THREE:  BRAZIL, ENGLAND, MEXICO

FINAL FIVE:  PANAMA, PHILIPPINES

TOP 10+1:  DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, KOREA, PUERTO RICO, SPAIN, THAILAND

TOP 20:  CAMBODIA, CHINA, CUBA, FRANCE, NIGERIA, SIERRA LEONE, VENEZUELA, VIETNAM

BUBBLING UNDER:  CROATIA, INDIA, LAOS, MALAYSIA, SOUTH AFRICA, SRI LANKA, TAIWAN, TÜRKIYE

Based on my initial impression, I feel the title for the 10th Mister Global is a two-way race between BRAZIL (Luiz Henrique Mascarenhas) and MEXICO (Bryan Vazquez) but possible Popular Vote champion ENGLAND (Baltej Tattla) might pull off an upset as he seems to be the one best evoking the vibe of the reigning Mister Global, India's Jason Dylan Brettfelean.  Let's see how it all unfolds tonight.

JUST ME!

JOSEPH
